MD State Highway Association (SHA) is moving forward with design and permitting for a project to raise MD Rt. 261 between 9th Street and the Anne Arundel County line. The purpose of the project is to get the road surface above tidal flooding and provide a high point in roadway to connect the flood dike. Recently, the town staff attended a meeting at the SHA offices in Annapolis. SHA’s environmental and highway design work is progressing. A proposed elevated walkway on the west side is not included in the current design efforts. SHA recognizes that the potential for this item exists. Efforts for the town to apply for grant funding for the walkway are planned for the spring of 2017. SHA has forwarded the following project schedule to the town: Preliminary investigation complete by July 2017; plans/specs estimated for completion August 2019; advertise for bids November 2019; open bids February 2020; award contract and notice to proceed April 2020.
