Flood Committee

Mission Statement

The Stormwater and Flood Mitigation Advisory Committee (also known as the “Flood Committee”) was created by Resolution 19-07.  The mission of the Flood Committee is to provide advice and counsel to the Town government regarding how to address short- and long-term hazards and impacts related to coastal and stormwater flooding throughout the Town and help ensure that the concerns and experiences of all residents are shared and understood.   

To achieve its mission, the Flood Committee works with the Town government and residents to develop and implement a comprehensive flood action plan that will:

• Identify current and projected flood hazards using the best available science,
• Identify current and projected flood impacts on specific geographic areas, including the physical, social, and economic consequences of floods,
• Identify and prioritize flood mitigation and adaptation projects, programs, and strategies to reduce flood hazards and impacts tailored to specific geographic areas,
• Identify and prioritize project, program and strategy budget and financing options,
• Identify points throughout the plan development process where community input  will be obtained.

Committee Structure and Meetings

• Members who are Town residents and/or property owners and are appointed by the Mayor.  
• A Committee Chair appointed by the Mayor.     
• A Committee Secretary appointed by the Mayor.   
• A Town Council Liaison appointed by the Mayor.
• The Committee meets monthly.      
• The Committee works directly with the Mayor and the Director of Public Works.         

The Committee is subject the Maryland Open Meetings Law and all agendas and meeting minutes must be provided to the Town Clerk by the Committee Chair or delegee for distribution and posting to the Committee webpage.
