Recent Flooding

flood

Our area has recently experienced some of the worst flooding since Hurricane Isabel in 2003. To put this into perspective, the pump located on Chesapeake Avenue normally runs for approximately 13 hours on a typical Friday through Sunday timeframe. Over this past Friday through Sunday, the pump ran for 63 hours to pump out the rain water in that area. We are expecting more rain this week and are asking that everyone exercise good judgement in areas that are flooded. To prevent injuries or damage to vehicles, do not walk through or drive through flooded areas. If there are barricades placed on the streets, do not drive around them. You will notice after the floodwaters are gone, the Department of Public Works crew and the Waterfront crew work hard to clean the streets and boardwalk so they are free from debris and mud. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during these heavy rain and flooding events.
