North Beach Nature Center

The North Beach Nature Center is located at Wetlands Overlook Park, 4030 11th Street in North Beach. The center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm and is closed Sunday and Monday. Hours are subject to change. The North Beach Nature Center is a Community Parks and Playgrounds Program assisted project.

The North Beach Nature Center provides a base of operations for Community Conservation outreach programming and expanded nature programs and hikes. The Nature Center will become a hub for residents to explore the wetlands and woods surrounding the park. Wetlands Overlook Park provides beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay and is a hotspot for birding and all things related to nature. 

Some fun experiences you might expect at the Nature Center are as follows:

  • Animal Ambassadors: The Nature Center will house several animal ambassadors, including Rylan the Box Turtle, Rosie the Mud Turtle, Felix the frog and some other exciting additions yet to be announced.
  • Oyster Reef Tank: The Nature Center has partnered with the Chesapeake Beach Oyster Cultivation Society and created an oyster reef display aquarium complete with a mini reef ball and live creatures like mud crabs, shrimp and fish from the Chesapeake Bay.
  • Summer Guest Critters: There will be summer visitors such as tadpoles, a horseshoe crab or blue crab, and frogs or toads for folks to meet.
  • Nature Drop in Programs: These programs will be offered on Saturdays at 1 pm, including animal story time, nature crafts, and meet the animal ambassadors.
  • Community Conservation Programs: Owl Prowls, Moth Nights, Creepy Critter Hike, Summer and Winter Solstice Walks, and Woodland Trail Discovery Walks will all be returning. Registration will be required. Check back for dates!
  • Programs By Request: Homeschool, family, school and scout groups may request programs during non-open hours at the Nature Center by emailing Lgarrett@northbeachmd.org.
