America In Bloom

America In Bloom

November 1, 2017: The Town of North Beach participated in the America in Bloom program for the first time this year. America in Bloom is a national awards program based on building pride in your community and promoting beautification through education and community involvement. The program encourages the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements. The Town of North Beach greatly appreciates the cooperation and participation from town businesses and residents. It is encouraging to witness the pride we all have for our town. The town also would like to recognize Greenstreet Gardens in Lothian, MD for the excellent advice and support they provided during this process.

In July, a group of judges from America In Bloom visited North Beach. The judges were here to make observations and evaluate the town on floral displays, landscaped areas, urban forestry, environmental efforts, heritage preservation and overall impression. The judges easily traversed the town by foot and golf cart, but noted that “North Beach’s small scale is no reflection on the achievements and amenities this community offers its residents and guests.”

At the America In Bloom Symposium and Awards in Holliston, MA on October 7, 2017, North Beach was recognized for two special awards. Out of 40 participating cities, North Beach was one of three nominations for “Coolest Downtown” and one of three nominations for “Overall Impression.” The town also received four out of five “blooms” in the first year participating, which is a very impressive achievement. We are already looking forward to next year and receiving five blooms.

The Town of North Beach is excited to be participating in the America in Bloom program for the first time. America in Bloom is a national awards program based on building pride in your community and promoting beautification through education and community involvement. The program encourages the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements. Participants experience better cooperation among municipal, commercial and residential sectors because everyone works toward a common goal. The Town of North Beach hopes this program will inspire businesses and residents to promote town pride and community involvement.

Meetings have been held and a plan is in place. Greenstreet Gardens partnered with the town and assisted with the flowers in the planter boxes on Bay Avenue at our annual Plant the Town Day on Saturday, April 22, 2017.  We are excited to be a part of this national program and hope to continue to participate for many years.
