Today marks the 25th anniversary of the North Beach Boardwalk dedication, which took place on April 25, 1998. The North Beach Boardwalk has been a treasured landmark and attraction for residents and visitors alike. It has provided a beautiful setting for people to enjoy the scenic views of the Chesapeake Bay and the Town of North Beach. For more than 25 years, the boardwalk has been the backdrop for countless beautiful photographs, the site of many events and activities, and a place for exercise and relaxation.

"The boardwalk has been an important part of our town's history and a gathering place for residents and visitors. We are thrilled to acknowledge this milestone anniversary of the North Beach Boardwalk dedication," said Mayor Mike Benton.

The Bayside History Museum provided the following timeframe on the boardwalk improvement plans that began over 38 years ago.

In 1985, under the leadership of Mayor Buck Gott, Phase I of the Waterfront Improvement Plan that included the sidewalk and boardwalk extension was developed. The following year, in 1986, Mayor Buck Gott oversaw the development of Phase II of the boardwalk, which included the construction of a pavilion. Under the leadership of Mayor Russell Hall in 1987, the bid was awarded to begin work on the boardwalk and pier. In 1995, under the leadership of Mayor Dan Hartley and working in conjunction with Buck Gott, the plan to develop an extension of the boardwalk was introduced. The following year, in 1996, under Mayor Dan Hartley's leadership, Phase III was developed that included boat docking. Finally, in 1998, Mayor Dan Hartley announced the dedication of the boardwalk to Buck Gott, in recognition of his vision and leadership in developing the boardwalk. The dedication took place on April 25, 1998 at 1 pm.

The dedication marker on the pavilion reads, "The Town of North Beach dedicates this boardwalk to W. Alan ‘Buck’ Gott. The vision and commitment of this Special Projects Officer, Town Council member and two-term Mayor has resulted in this permanent structure which enhances the enjoyment of the Chesapeake Bay.”
