On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Mayor Benton presented a check in the amount of $9,348.69 to the Ladies of Charity, Calvert County. Councilwoman Elizabeth Lawton was also in attendance as the Ladies of Charity received the net proceeds of the 2022 Polar Bear Plunge. This energetic group of ladies (and a few gentlemen) volunteered at the Polar Bear Plunge, sold pizza, baked goods and hot chocolate to raise funds for their organization. The Ladies of Charity have been serving those in need in the community for over 50 years. The nonprofit operates a food pantry on Dayton Avenue on the grounds of Saint Anthony’s Church. Between January 1 and December 9, 2021, the Ladies of Charity Food Pantry had distributed approximately 182,000 pounds of food in the community.

The Ladies of Charity Food Pantry is open every Tuesday from noon to 2 pm, the second Wednesday of each month from 5 to 7 pm and the last Saturday of the month from 10 am to noon.
