FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

* WHERE...Portions of DC, including the following , District of Columbia, Maryland, including the following areas, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Carroll, Cecil, Central and Southeast Howard, Central and Southeast Montgomery, Charles, Frederick MD, Northern Baltimore, Northwest Harford, Northwest Howard, Northwest Montgomery, Prince Georges, Southeast Harford, Southern Baltimore, St. Marys and Washington, Virginia, including the following areas, Albemarle, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Augusta, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Central and Southeast Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park, Clarke, Culpeper, Eastern Loudoun, Fairfax, Frederick VA, Greene, King George, Madison, Nelson, Northern Fauquier, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Northwest Prince William, Orange, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Southern Fauquier, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Warren and Western Loudoun, and panhandle West Virginia, including the following areas, Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan.

* WHEN...From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A period of moderate to heavy rain is likely to overspread the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. Rainfall totals of 1.5 to 3 inches are expected with localized amounts up to 4 inches possible. - Please visit weather.gov/safety/flood for flood safety and preparedness information

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

St. Marys-Calvert- Including the cities of Lexington Park, California, Chesapeake Beach, Huntingtown, Dunkirk, North Beach, Lusby, and Prince Frederick 1252 AM EST Tue Jan 9 2024

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 1 AM EST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. The strongest winds will be near the bayshore.

* WHERE...St. Marys and Calvert Counties.

* WHEN...From 3 PM this afternoon to 1 AM EST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

COASTAL FLOOD WARNING Coastal Hazard Message National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC 319 AM EST Tue Jan 9 2024

...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 AM EST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low lying areas due to tidal flooding.

* WHERE...Shoreline in Calvert County.

* WHEN...From 9 AM this morning to 6 AM EST Wednesday, especially around the time of high tide.

* IMPACTS...At 4.0 feet, portions of 7th, 8th, and 9th Streets will flood in North Beach, with homes affected near 9th Street. At 4.0 feet, flooding of structures near Charles Street in Solomons is possible. Yards, parking lots, and portions of both Charles and Williams Street are covered by more than a foot of water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Tides up to 4 feet above normal. Moderate tidal flooding is expected along the Calvert county coastline during the afternoon and overnight high tide cycles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

A strong area of low pressure will impact the region today into tonight, bringing multiple hazards as follows.

A Flood Watch is in effect from 1 PM today through tonight. Heavy rainfall may result in significant flooding of urban areas and small streams.

A Storm Warning is in effect this afternoon into tonight for the Chesapeake Bay and the Lower Tidal Potomac River. A Gale Warning is in effect for the Northern Tidal Potomac during this time.

Coastal Flood Warnings are in effect from this morning through late tonight for many tidal locations.

A High Wind Warning is in effect for southern Harford, southern Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Calvert, St. Mary`s County from 3 PM today to 1 AM Wednesday. A Wind Advisory is in effect for all other areas.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

The Flood Watch continues until 7 AM Wednesday.

Coastal Flood Warnings continue Wednesday.

Low pressure will bring a soaking rain Friday afternoon into early Saturday with instances of flooding possible along with the potential for isolated instances of wind damage.

Spotters should be prepared to report rain and wind measurements, and any instances of wind damage and flooding from late tonight through Wednesday.
