In September, we recognize National Preparedness Month, an annual opportunity to promote emergency preparedness and resilience among individuals, families, and communities.

During the Town Council Meeting on September 14, 2023, Mayor Benton proclaimed September as “National Preparedness Month” in the Town of North Beach. Mayor Benton emphasized the importance of readiness for potential hazards, including severe weather events, flooding, power outages, public health emergencies, and other unforeseen incidents, urging both residents and businesses to take action.

The Town of North Beach encourages all community members to follow these essential tips to reduce their risk during disasters and emergency situations:

  1. Assess your needs.
  2. Develop an emergency plan.
  3. Create and maintain an emergency supply kit.
  4. Prepare your home.
  5. Engage your support network.
  6. Stay informed by utilizing online notification resources provided by the Town of North Beach, Calvert County Government and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency.

Additional recommended actions include subscribing to email notifications and text notifications from the Town of North Beach, signing up for Calvert County ALERT notifications at Calvert County ALERT, downloading the Calvert Prepare emergency mobile app for iOS (Apple) and Android devices, setting up a Smart911 safety profile for 911 calls at Smart911, submitting information for individuals requiring special assistance at Special Needs Registry, and receiving free notifications through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Wireless Emergency Alerts.

Don't delay! Plan and communicate proactively to ensure the safety and well-being of yourself and your community!
