Successful Pollinator Palooza

logo

In celebration of National Pollinators Week, town residents and North Beach House and Garden Club (NBHGC) members successfully updated the Pollinator Pathway Garden at the Mark R. Frazer Sunrise Garden on June 25, 2022. With garden tools, buckets, and native plants the volunteers made quick work of expanding the pollinator offerings. The native plants included phlox, goldenrods, ironweeds, Green Eyed Susans, ferns and Butterfly weed milkweed (the host plant for Monarch caterpillars) and were from Chesapeake Natives Nursery and some were also donated by local gardeners. A Pollinator Art exhibit was installed by John Real, NBHGC and Lisa Garrett, Community Conservation, to attract small solitary Mason Bees to homes along the back fence of the garden. More hexagon boxes will be added in the future to create a welcoming place for these small, non-stinging bees to live and to also allow them quick and easy access to pollinate the gardens!
