The Department of Public Works (DPW) has been diligently working on upgrading the town’s water system well house control building. The existing building is 30 years old with several issues in which our crew is in the process of addressing. The building currently floods often when we get heavy rains, controls are outdated and hard to replace if they fail. This project also includes replacing the existing control panel that is located inside the DPW building. To date, a new electrical service has been installed raising service to new flood plain level. BGE has been on site to power up the new service and to cut power to the existing service. DPW has removed the old service and worked with an electrical contractor to install a new control panel and all the related conduit, wiring, etc. DPW has started the demolition of the old components. The demolition is expected to take one week. The new well house building will be constructed on the same site as the old building. The new building will be raised two feet to protect it from flooding. New piping will be installed on the interior for better access for the daily operations and maintenance. The entire project is expected to complete by late fall.
